The One That Got Away

Hot and not happy about the big one that got away!

Hot and not happy about the big one that got away!

Yep, it’s still day one of January 2013 and as is common, I’m scraping into #IBOT by the skin of my tapping, typing fingers.   The kids haven’t been to ‘holiday club’ since Christmas Eve so it’s been NOISEY, CRAZY and just a little bit BUSY here in Bumpyville.  It’s also been ‘stinking’ HOT, over 40C for a couple of days.  Stinking because, well if you raise boys you will know exactly what I mean! eww!

I started 2013 sitting on a rock at the edge where the land meets the ocean.  I should get a conservation award because instead of fishing it seems I was fish feeding!  I’m sure some fairy had secretly filed down the hook and I know you aint gonna believe that I caught three big’uns but they got away!  HONEST!

Stinking of icky bait I headed home at 12.15am, January morning.  I was fishing with Jaydz (18yr old) jokingly claiming that I had fulfilled my annual fishing trip for both 2012 and 2013 by being there for the turn of the New Year clock!

I watched the sun set for the last time in 2012.

I watched the sun set for the last time in 2012.

I realised it was the first time in almost 21 years of marriage that PB and I were not together for New Year.  It’s the first time I haven’t received a New Year KISS! Should I panic and scream that it’s a sure sign our marriage is over?  No, relax.  We were pretty chilled this year, we didn’t party.  We are knee deep in renovations and the $$ that it takes to renovate. Actually scrub that, because we are not knee deep in the $$, we are knee deep in invoices though.  In return our house is becoming a home that we can enjoy with all the kids and plenty more!

6am I’m woken by Action Man, followed by Mr Toddy.  I groaned my disapproval, I’m not sure why because I know they have no mercy for poor Mum.  I stumbled out of bed and so began the day, yep 6am.

I’m awesome, so I made melted cheese croissants with frothy Chococcino’s (kids cappuccino) and kept all 5 kids reasonably quiet so the other 4 (teens and PB) could sleep in.  I also made creamy rice pudding in the rice cooker YUMMM and broke the vacuum cleaner, great start to the new year!

I felt irritable today for the first true time since Christmas Eve.  This is a good sign!  Really,  it is!  It’s the longest I’ve gone with so many kids at home for so many days without feeling like crawling under the bed and not coming out.  Everyone needs some ‘my space’ time and that hit me today.  I had also been even more awesome by NOT blogging so much.  I made myself ‘available’ to my family and guess what, they were all busy on their computers!

Which brings me to my 2013 goal set by PB and myself during a heart to heart (awwww).  We’ve done a deal, I’ve sold my soul. Jeesh not really, relax ok!   Actually PB has promised not to do any work on his computer if I promise not to blog or tweet or Facebook on Friday and Saturday evenings.  I love it! He’s finally realised how absent he is by having me absent.  It’s a win for the family and for me. As long as he sticks by it because I know I can!  He however, is a work-o-holic.

So that’s my entry to 2013 and you’ll know if I don’t answer your tweets on a Friday and Saturday evening it’s because I’m snuggled on the couch enjoying a great movie with my even greater family.

Cheers to 2013, stronger friendships, bigger dreams, more adventure and everything positive that can be thrown my way.

I love the fishing over the new years as a way to do it for two years! Think I’ll have to steal that one. ;)
