I’m looking for a rock to hide under, actually putting my head in the sand would be much softer. Did you know that an Ostrich does NOT put its head in the sand, the age old belief is merely a myth! (random facts).
Christmas is over and the tree and all its relatives are packed away for another year. New Year has come and gone and that brings us to the present and the near future. This side of the year is incredibly busy for Western Australians, the amount of ‘public holidays’ is significant. Starting with Australia Day January 26th.
Before that the Bumpy family celebrates PaBumpy’s birthday. He will be a ripe, balding, 45 years old. He’s an amazing guy who asks for little, but gives much.
Then February 6 we have JayJay’s birthday, he’s turning 8 years old. OH wow! That means he’s been with us for 5 years, I can’t believe how time has flown. Turning 8 is a big deal to the little fella, he’s so excited.
Then we have the big one. Miss TJTeen turns Sweet Sixteen at the end of February. So do I! OK , I mean I have a birthday, at the end of February and I turn Sweet 44 OUCH. In fact mine is the day after hers and as her final year ‘ball’ is only days before her birthday my birthday will come and go without so much as a flutter in the breeze. That’s fine by me, of course I may win lotto or discover via my spam box that I’ve been gifted lots and lots of money so there is hope for me. Seriously though, this is her big year in so many ways.
Only days after all the February fuss with only enough time to grab a few hot coffees it’s time for Spaceman’s birthday and he’s turning ten. Double figures for the first of the younger five.
I then get a short eleven day break before it’s PJPrincess’s turn and she will turn 9 years old. The poor little princess is having issues growing and still looks like a 6 year old. This really annoys her. She may be short but she has the ‘age’ attitude to make up for it!
After that I get a huge break with the next birthday not being until May, thank goodness.
The biggee here is that we do parties every second year for the younger kids and then when then turn double figures it goes to parties at age 10, 13, 16 and 18. ALL of their birthdays have turned out to be PARTY birthdays this year.
Yep, that means 4 (not counting mine or PB) parties in 9 weeks. 5 different cakes (PB has to have a cake, yes?), 4 lots of invites, 4 different party ideas to come up with to equal Action Man’s ‘Dinosaur’ theme and awesome Volcano cake.
I’m exhausted just sharing this with you. Perhaps just a tad scared too. I want each child to have their dreams come true and have the party to remember, especially TJTeen. Amidst all the craziness it’s back to school time. New teachers, new friends and all the stress of school and homework.

Party, party, party is what Bumpyville will be all about for the next few months.
So while I love a challenge can you see why I may desire to put my head in the sand until hmmm the end of March. I’m wishing I had a few helping Fairy Godmother’s to help me get through this with beautiful memories for all 5 4 kids (PB is not a kid).
In March I fly out to Sydney to attend the Digital Parents conference, I think by then I will be very glad for the ‘adult’ time away and perhaps I won’t be wanting to see any birthday cake for quite some time.
To survive, thrive and be the best, most incredibly awesome Mum EVA I will need to;
- Make sure I have lots of quality coffee in the cupboard
- Step up my current poor discipline skill at LIST WRITING
- Choose party themes really soon
- Plan well ahead and have all invites printed and ready to go
- Plan and organise cakes, admit that I probably won’t be able to home make each cake with all this pressure!
- Rob a bank!
There, that’s my really relaxed, scheduled first few months. What’s on your schedule for the first part of 2013?
