I started this journey of blogging without knowledge of monetizing blogs and public relations issues and I loved sharing my adventures, thoughts and daily events. Then I stepped over into accepting sponsored posts and other advertising opportunities. Now two years later I’m going back to where it all began.
The journey has had its ups and its downs and it’s been expensive. More has gone out than has ever come in and that includes long hours and headaches writing posts or even emailing back and forth with agencies who waste several moments in my life while they fluff around with gritty issues as if they were paying me thousands.
Over the past few months I’ve stood by and watched as demands have increased by those wanting attention from you, the awesome readers of The Bumpiest Path. Agencies and Brands wanting your attention but in all the wrong way. I’ve had requests to hide links from you in order to trick you into going through to their sites and offers of posts that look like a great read offering lots of great ideas yet turn out to be a front for an eventual advert. One such post was all about children playing outdoors in fresh air and sunshine but ended with telling you to go buy a garden shed!
This is not what I want for The Bumpiest Path and it’s not what I want for you. If you take time in your precious day to stop by and read what I have to share you deserve to not have to wonder if what I’m writing is genuine or because I’ve been paid or bribed into writing it.
The PR/advertising** currently on this blog is genuine so I’m not talking about the past reviews I’ve published. One of the best PR works I did was for Huggies Australia. Why was it great? They were friendly, open and donated several packets of nappies plus Disney toys knowing they were going to babies in foster care.
The unsavory ones that I describe above are still sitting in my email inbox filed under REJECT.
I’m returning to genuine wholesome share and care blogging. No more pressure to post 3 times a week to keep the statistics flowing.
Basically I never wanted to be in sales and I don’t have what it takes to be business savvy, pushy or dare I say it … persuasive, I’m working hard at polite words.
What do I want out of blogging? I want fun, adventure, friendship and to be able to let you know you are not alone in whatever journey and life struggles you may be having.
From here on if I share about events its because I’ve been, or I am going, and think you will want to know about it. If I share a product I love, it’s because I LOVE it and you may want to know about it. Just the same as if I were to meet with you for coffee and chat. Don’t worry, if I stumble upon any freebies that don’t require you to jump hoops I will make sure you know.
Thank you to YOU, my readers. For your trust, tolerance and support throughout my journey. You have always been an awesome lot and I’m so privileged to have you here.
